UNDER 6’s RUGBY AT THORNBURY RFC
The Under 6 Rugby Team at Thornbury RFC is a mix of boys and girls from School Year 1.
Are you a Boy or Girl in Year 1 and fancy a challenge? Well come and train with Thornbury RFC U6’s.
As the youngest members of the TRFC family, you will be starting out on a fantastic sporting challenge of rugby. Rugby is a great team sport, played by both boys and girls. ALL are welcome here at Thornbury RFC. New players are able to join at any point in the rugby season. No previous rugby experience is needed, just a passion for the game and an appetite to learn. We offer a 4 week free trial so you can try before committing.
The Under 6 Rugby Team comes from a range of primary schools from Thornbury and beyond, creating fond friendships through a shared interest during both rugby training sessions and games. We train on a Sunday morning between September and April, usually 10:30-11:30am. The Under 6s do not take part in matches till the following season. The time sent in the team is dedicated to training and having a Sunday morning of rugby fun! We expect a level of commitment, but you aren’t expected to come to every session or game, we appreciate life is busy with lots to fit in. It is important that your child attends as many training sessions as they are able as this is when they learn and practice new skills.
Rugby is a dynamic team sport, great fun, and provides the best opportunity to get VERY MUDDY on a weekly basis.
Once players start, they often stay and work their way up through the various years. As an U6 you will play in a mixed team of boys and girls. You will remain a mixed team until Year Seven onward, when the teams separate. There are a number of players who have gone on to play within the top flight of rugby and even for the England rugby team.
How far you want to go with Thornbury RFC is simply up to you!
Our Coaches
Rugby, although physical is well managed and each squad has a number of experienced coaches who share the same passion for the sport and often are either the parents of our players or who in fact played at Thornbury for the senior teams. All coaches receive full training and have a valid DBS check.
Duty & Parent Support
There is a duty rota in place to manage the clubhouse tasks and 2-3 times a year each age group is required to cover this on a Sunday morning. This includes car park marshaling, kitchen duties, manning the bar and clearing up at the end of the day. The duty shifts give you the chance to spend time with other parents and have a bit of fun, whilst supporting our club. The duty rota runs from 9am – 2pm and you could be asked to do a shift (usually for an hour) at any point between those times. Duty dates are shared well in advance and all parents are expected to take part.
